My name is Lexi Malan and I am the founder of Lacuna Travel.

I went on my first international trip to Belize and even thought there were A LOT of bumps in the road I had an absolutely amazing time. I knew I couldn’t go back to my regular life after that. So I decided to make travel a priority. I am starting full time travel and it will help me with this company all the more! Because I am traveling full time I go to each destination several days before hand and make sure everything is 100% ready to go (See last question on FAQ) . I love travel, meeting new people, and experiencing new cultures. I am so thrilled to be able to share the world of travel with you! How do you pick the locations you do?

• We choose the locations carefully so we can offer the best experience. Some of those things include: safety, group activities available, group accommodations available, prices in the country, and places people want to go! We also want to hear if there is a trip you want to go on! Email us at hello@discoverlacuna.com to tell us about your travel ideas! 

Should I bring a spouse? Or a gal friend?

• You can bring any friends or significant others! We absolutely encourage bringing multiple people. It is so fun to share experiences like this with people you love!

Are you going to hold my hand the whole time or are you going to design free time?

• We definitely have planned out days that we do stuff together, and everything will be taken care of for you! However, part of the fun on this trip is that you also get 2 or 3 days on the trip that you get to do whatever you want! Those days are also funded. You will be given cash to do as you please on those days. So kick back on relax or go on an extra exciting adventure!

Is there time where I can do a little work?

• We totally get it! You have work to do, and so do we! There will be several days that the activities don’t start until later in the morning or afternoon, so you can do work in the morning. You also get to pick your schedule on free days so if you have work to catch up on you can grab some local cuisine with your money and work away! 

How many people go on each trip?

• This is dependent on the trip. We try to keep the groups smaller so that you get a really personal feel and can get to know everyone on the trip. Our group sizes range from 10-24 people depending on the trip.

Is this co-ed? Any gender?

• Yes! We absolutely invite anyone to come on these trips. We are working on some specialty trips that may have a gender requirement. All of the trips you can see now are co-ed!

What about age? Is there an age limit?

• There is no age limit! We work with people 18 and up. As long as you are in good health and can travel we are so happy to have you! I've traveled with people of all ages and made friends around the world with people of every age as well! I don’t think there is an age limit on an adventurous soul :)

How are room assignments made?

• Room assignments will be made based on several criteria. If you come with someone we try to stick you in the same room if you prefer. Not everyone will have a private room on every trip, but for most trips you will share a big bed if you are with a spouse, or be in the same room as your friend on separate beds. If you have any concerns or requests please reach out and let us know!

What do I have to pack?

• We will email you a packing list for each trip after you have purchased the trip.

I have dietary restrictions. Can you accommodate that?

• Yes! After you purchase the trip you will find a link on the destinations website page right under the purchase button where you will fill out a questionnaire. One of the questions is about your dietary restrictions. We ask you to just use this spot for allergies, and high intolerances. Please don’t put preferences on here, we ask this because there will be a variety of local foods and sometimes catering to all of the little things people don’t like gets really tricky. Don’t worry! There will be an option of food you will like :)

What if I change my mind? What is your refund policy?

• We’ll cry, but We’ll understand. Plans change. The refund policy is as follows: 100%refundable up to 30 days after purchase or 60 days before trip (Whatever comes first) 40 days before the trip 50% will be refunded and 30 days before no refund will be offered. (If the last occurs talk to us about transferring your money to another trip, we can usually accommodate that)

I am not in great shape, or I don’t want to do a lot of hard activities. Is that ok?

• Lacuna trips are generally easy going. Lots of bus trips and some walking or a couple low energy activities. However, there are a couple trips that require higher activity levels. Each destination will have an activity level near the top so you know what you are in for!  If you are concerned about parts of the itinerary or have a question, please do reach out!  We want you to have a blast while you're on your trip!

How long are your trips?

• The trips are generally a week and a half long. That being said there are some trips that you have to take flight time into consideration. For example: If you are flying from the United States and are going to somewhere like New Zealand, or Bali the travel time is multiple days. We book the flights so all of the people arrive on the same day or very very close to the same day. (Don’t worry we wont start without you!) You will be picked up at the airport and brought to the place we are staying. We will let you know if you need to plan extra time in for flights!

Is everything prepared before we go? How can I be sure I am going into a situation that I am taken care of?

• Everything is 100% taken care of! The trips are all already planned and ready for you! Another super awesome bonus is that your trip coordinator is already traveling full time! So they get to the destination days before anyone arrives to make sure everything is completely ready before you get there. No loose ends are left with us!

Do you offer payment plans?

• We do offer payment plans! Click on the purchase button on the page of your chosen trip and you can chose to make payments or pay in full :)
